Church Leadership

The mission of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church is Building Relationships and Changing Lives
Matthew 22:37-39 – You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and
with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘You
shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Rev. Jason Myers – Pastor

I am from Indian Trail, NC. I grew up at First Baptist Church Indian Trail and came to know Christ as my savior in my teenage years. I sensed the call to ministry at the age of 16.  Upon this call to ministry, I sensed a huge desire to find as many opportunities as possible to serve in ministry. It was at the age of 20 when I learned the Spirit-filled life of ongoing repentance of sin and self and pressing into Christ on a moment by moment basis. My heartbeat is to help people learn that Christ lives His life through us. My intention is always to preach in such a way as to engage others in the Jewish foundation of the Gospel. My wife, Christie, and I have been married since 2008 and we have three children. I enjoy being in the woods and riding four-wheelers with my son. It  has been a joy serving as pastor here at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church since January 3, 2021.

Matt Rushing – Student Minister

I started as youth minister at Mt. Pleasant in June 2022. My wife Ally and I have been at Mt. Pleasant since 2019. I felt God’s calling on me to teach not only kids His Word but living it out in my daily life.  I came to know Jesus when I was 13 years old at a Heaven’s Gates Hells Flame’s outreach at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail.  I have been in church my whole life but never knew God would have me serving as I am today. I was raised in the Shiloh Truelight Church of Christ in Mint Hill, NC where I attended Vocational training until the age of 16. I was homeschooled by my grandmother and received my high school diploma through American school. My grandmother loved the Lord with all her heart and showed it in her daily life and I must give credit to her for the person I am today and wanting to share the gospel.  Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” To Jesus I give all the glory.

Sherry Walden – Administrative Assistant

I am the administrative assistant working for the pastor and the church.  I accepted Jesus as my Savior after my grandfather passed away.  I was lost, grieving and in need of a love that wouldn’t end.  I found that love in Jesus.  I continue to see him working in my life during difficult times.  I have been married to my husband Chris for over 26 years.  Chris is a deacon and we both serve on Audio and Video team.  We have one daughter (Ally) and she married a God loving man (Matthew).  We have a grandson (Rylan) that I along with his other grandmother take care of him.  So, if I’m not working at the church I’m usually with him.  Our children are the Youth Leaders here at the church.  I worked for 33 years at Family Dollar in Payroll and retired early due to an illness, I know all of it was in God’s timing.  I was asked by the pastor to come help out temporarily while they searched for a new Administrative Assistant.  We visited the church and felt God’s love more than ever.   We decided to join and we’ve been happy that we did.  Church life had hurt us in the past but the people here at Mt. Pleasant reminded us of His true love.
