Passage: Act 2 : 1 - 11
Service Type:

The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread

Acts 2:1-11

Leviticus 23:9-11 – Jesus arose on the “Firstfruits” – the day following the Sabbath.  In our modern day mindset, this means Sunday and we know Jesus arose on a Sunday, which has now become the believer’s Sabbath.

A Jewish priest would wave the harvest of a firstfruit in the air symbolizing thanksgiving to the LORD for the harvest, as well as for more to come.

Leviticus 23:15 - Festival of Shavu’ot (weeks) was a 2nd firstfruit offering of new grain, signifying a greater agricultural harvest.

Shavu’ot is known to us by its Greek name, “Pentecost,” which simply means “50.”

The Holy Spirit is viewed as an earnest down payment.  Ephesians 1:13-14

Jesus’ resurrection - 1st celebration of firstfruit

Holy Spirit’s descent - 2nd celebration of firstfruit

“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”  Matthew 9:37-38
